First Mark VI Circuit-Switcher Installations an Important Part of an Ongoing System-Wide Upgrade.
Starting in the summer of 2002, a large utility in the Midwest began upgrading their system with a series of capacitor bank installations for voltage support during peak periods. The utility selected the Mark VI Circuit-Switcher with pre-insertion inductors for switching and protection of each of their capacitor bank installations — currently over nine substation upgrades!
In the pictured installation, a 138-kV Mark VI Circuit-Switcher is switching a 138-kV Cooper 32.4 MVAR Fuseless Capacitor Bank.
The Mark VI Circuit-Switcher features a higher-than-ever 31.5-kA fault-interrupting rating and 3-cycle interrupting time. With the addition of pre-insertion inductors — the time-proven method of reducing inrush current and transient overvoltages — Mark VI Circuit-Switcher is tailor-made for capacitor-bank switching and protection.
