M Series® Switch Operator Now Has Optional Voltage and Current Sensing.

M Series Switch Operator

S&C’s M Series Switch Operator model equipped with the new Voltage and Current Sensing Option provides true RMS voltage and current readings and fault detection when installed with line post current and voltage sensors. The M Series can be programmed to automatically sectionalize after an overcurrent event is followed by loss of power. It will also open the switch on loss of a phase, protecting three-phase loads from single-phasing, and the M Series can be programmed to close the switch when three-phase voltage returns.

Historical voltage and current data are remotely retrievable from M Series memory with WinMon® Control Management Software. Maximum and minimum three-phase system voltage, current, kWs, kVARs, and power factor are logged daily. Voltage, current, and VAR readings are recorded at 15-minute intervals for a period of one week. Overcurrent, loss-of-voltage, and fault-magnitude/duration data are logged whenever they occur.

M Series Switch Operators control a wide variety of overhead air-break distribution switches with either rotational or reciprocating drive operation. The robust M Series includes a 3.6 HP dc motor, gearbox, control circuits, microprocessor, communications, and battery in a single pole mounted enclosure. Sophisticated battery testing reports low power long before it would prevent switch operation. Unlike simple motor-driven operators, the M Series monitors the angular position of the drive-train assembly with a highly precise, speed-independent positioning system with ±0.2° accuracy, and takes corrective action in the event of incomplete operation, or stuck contacts.

As an alternate to the Voltage and Current Sensing Option, standard M Series Switch Operators can be equipped with optional radio faulted circuit indicators. Then the M Series can be programmed to isolate faults without the installation of line post current and voltage sensors. Sectionalizing can be programmed to initiate when a signal received from the faulted circuit indicators is followed by loss of control power.

M Series installation and setup is fast and precise. A portable computer connected to the standard serial port on the M Series runs IntelliLINK® Setup Software. All operating parameters are selectable in the software, and the M Series will adjust and optimize its mechanical operation to optimize its performance in the actual switch installation.

S&C’s powerful M Series Switch Operator is the economical tool for controlling and monitoring operation of S&C Alduti-Rupter® Switches, and other manual overhead switches from various manufacturers. Now with voltage and current sensing capabilities, the M Series offers even more flexible automatic operation.
