A Complete Solution for Transformer Protection: Trans-Rupter II® and S&C’s new Circuit-Isolator II™ Disconnect.

S&C’s new Circuit-Isolator II™ Disconnect

For distribution substations where space is at a premium, S&C offers Trans-Rupter II with Circuit-Isolator II Disconnect. This three-pole, group-operated, vertical-break style disconnect provides a visible air gap to isolate the transformer during maintenance.

The Circuit-Isolator II Disconnect is furnished with a manual operating handle. If desired, it instead can be furnished with an S&C Type DS-1 Switch Operator, providing remote power operation capability. Trans-Rupter II with Circuit-Isolator II is furnished with S&C Mounting Pedestals, making for an exceptionally compact footprint. The mounting pedestals include a support frame that comes complete with all necessary interphase wiring and conduit, greatly reducing installation time and total installed cost.

Trans-Rupter II with Circuit-Isolator II is available for both Trans-Rupter II Model EX and Trans-Rupter II Model SE. Trans-Rupter II Transformer Protector Model EX is compatible with virtually any relay system, for comprehensive transformer protection. The Model EX shown in the photo is equipped with optional motor operators—which can be coordinated with the optional Type DS-1 Switch Operator for full remote operation. Model SE provides a complete overcurrent protection package that requires no substation batteries.

Both Model EX and Model SE offer these important benefits:

  • Three-phase tripping by electrically linked pole-units. Provides simultaneity of less than ¼ cycle. No mechanical linkage to adjust or maintain.
  • It’s resettable. Unlike power fuses, Trans-Rupter II only needs to be manually charged after an operation. (Optional motor operators available.)
  • 31.5-kA interrupting rating. More than enough for most applications. Single-gap SF6-gas-filled interrupters interrupt the circuit in 3 cycles, maintain dielectric ratings when open.
  • Maintenance-free operating mechanism. Each pole-unit has its own operating mechanism, sealed in SF6, providing excellent protection from the external environment.
